if you ask chatgpt to generate ascii art of someone dancing it will generally spit out eldrich abomonations that defy comprehension

@suricrasia absolutely nothing has scared me more about llms than chatgpt's attempts at ascii art

@suricrasia I suspect that it's due to the fact that a LLM likely doesn't have much of a conception of like... what fixed-width font ascii art actually.. looks like? I'm sure the model analyzes it more like a linear sequence of characters than a grid/bitmap/etc... so it can get that certain characters are often chained, separated by regular intervals of spaces of some sort, but not really that, to a human eye, that actually means something and looks like something if you line everything up right

@suricrasia *scrawls in notes* interpretive dance… safe… from AI… interference

@suricrasia It's *soooo* interesting to me that it manages to make .... something despite it not making anything resembling dancing lkadsfkjfd

@halcy @suricrasia Just don't ask it to do something "moderately complex" lol

@suricrasia 🌸 it can draw trees and it can draw a cat sometimes but this is what it gave me for “the moon”:
